Last week my friend and I were speaking about the nice weather while looking out my kitchen window as I rinsed off some dishes in the kitchen sink. My friend suggested that I dress up my patio for some outside dining. I thought this was a great idea but cringed at the prospect of having to confess that I didn’t really have any patio furniture. All I had were an unfashionable pair of old folding tables and chairs.

I started to do some research and discovered that there were a wide variety of patio furniture options. I was working with a relatively small budget, so I knew right away that I wouldn’t be able to afford some of the more expensive patio sets. Besides, I didn’t really have a lot of room to work with. My patio, like many patios that people have in their backyards, is relatively small. That said, I soon realized that I could create a casually elegant outdoor patio dining environment with bistro patio furniture. I love summer entertaining.

You might be wondering where the term “bistro” comes from, and how it relates to patio furniture. I wondered about this too. Bistros are believed to have been created by Parisian landlords who lived in the same building as their tenants. The landlords, as the story goes, wanted to supplement their rental income. In addition to collecting room and board from tenants, landlords would sometimes open their personal kitchen to the paying public. Generally speaking, menus were built around foods that were relatively easy to make and that could be prepared in large quantities and that would also remain reasonably fresh over time. Coffee, wine, and tea were also usually served.

You have to remember that landlords were using their personal kitchens to prepare the food. Think about the space you have in your kitchen. If it’s anything like mine, space is limited. There wasn’t really space inside the kitchen itself to serve patrons. Naturally, landlords didn’t want their entire living space turned into a seating area for patrons. This gave rise to tables and chairs being placed along the footpath beside the landlord’s building. Given the need to keep the footpaths reasonably clear from obstructions, the tables and chairs that were added had a tendency to be efficient and compact. Fast forward to today, and the bistro patio furniture that we see for sale is perfectly suited for small outdoor patios. Interesting, isn’t it?

You can find a wide variety of bistro patio furniture sets for sale at very reasonable prices. I’ve already selected an extremely elegant 3-piece bistro set that includes two chairs and a sturdy steel framed table with a tempered glass top. If you’re looking to dress up your patio for outside dining, I highly recommend that you consider bistro patio furniture.  I enjoyed researching it and learning about it so much, I decided to build this site about it.

The next time my friend comes over, I’ll be eager show off my new outdoor patio furniture. I can’t wait to see the look on my friend’s face. And I can’t wait to have wonderful dinners or my morning coffee out there on my bistro patio furniture.
